Ecclesiastes 1:3-11. The Preacher discovers the difficulty of humanity achieving any gain or profit during their lives. The universe operates according to cycles that make a goal or a conclusion impossible. Only something new can change this situation. We see how the Sabbath is a sign that there will be a conclusion and humanity will enter into God's rest. The resurrection and the beginning of the new creation is the solution. As Christians we act as agents of this new creation.

Ecclesiastes is a difficult book to grasp, but it is also one of the most interesting books of the Bible. In this sermon we will learn the four keys to understanding Ecclesiastes. One of the major obstacles to understanding Ecclesiastes is translating the word hebel which is translated vanity or meaninglessness. I argue that the concept of hebel cannot be contained in a single word or concept. Instead the best way to understand hebel is by looking at the story of Cain and Abel.
